Ahead of their Debut Psyked release ‘Blizzard EP’, we caught up with the Finnish duo to find out a little bit more about them and their influences.
Q. Who are you, where you from and what are you on?
A. We are Winter Games, a dance music duo from Northern Finland. We just finished our Polar Dance Spring tour to Pyhä ski center, well above the Arctic Circle. We had shows in London & Manchester too – can’t wait to get back. At the moment we’re buzzing to get our Blizzard EP out on Psyked!
Q. Describe your style and sound in one sentence.
A. We like to blend ’90s dance music influences with modern house and garage sounds – with a Northern twist!
Q. What were the influences for the EP?
A. This EP has a gotten a lot of influences from current UK dance music scene which we absolutely love, but the most interesting one comes from our childhood. We grew up listening to y2k dance music, many of those tunes are now treated as classics. That era has always been a huge inspiration for us. In Finland there was a young producer called JS16 who was behind Darude and Bomfunk MC’s, our heroes at the time. You really should check out his debut album from 1998, such a timeless uptempo dance music!
Q. One track that always gets you Psyked?
A. Referring to the previous answer, Bomfunk Mc’s – Uprocking Beats always gets us. Epic music video too!
Q. One album which changed your life.
A. Have to say it’s MTV Ibiza 1999 compilation CD which my friend kindly burned to me after borrowing from the library. Life changing. Take a look at the track list and you know why.
Subtle Radio – Guest Mix
The guys put together a killer mix for our Subtle Residency this month. The set spans all things UK Garage, Trance, and Hard House with an immaculate vibe throughout. The mix is a great reflection of the duo’s sound, striking a perfect balance of danceable and euphoric.
Well worth a listen!
